In a meeting with constituents during the July 4 recess, House Budget Chairwoman Dian Black (R-Tenn.) said she plans to hold a markup hearing on the fiscal 2018 budget during the first week Congress returns. The House GOP plans to write a budget with $511 billion in discretionary nondefense and $621 billion in discretionary defense spending for 2018, but they have not yet agreed on cuts to mandatory spending.
