Gearing Up for Reconciliation 2.0 (And 3.0, Maybe)

President Donald Trump is giving Republican lawmakers a June 1 deadline to pass a party-line bill to fund immigration enforcement, part of a strategy to reopen the Department of Homeland Security. Trump’s demand is kicking off a scramble for Republicans to quickly launch the budget reconciliation process previously used to enact the “big, beautiful bill.” The policy wish-list is growing, with Republicans discussing Middle East war funding, tax changes and energy permitting reform as part of this second budget reconciliation bill and a possible third bill.
