What’s Next for Kevin Warsh and the Fed’s Agenda

Thursday, May 21, 2026 | 1PM ET

Kevin Warsh’s confirmation to lead the Federal Reserve opens a new chapter for the central bank at a moment of intense political pressure from President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly pushed for lower interest rates and clashed with Jerome Powell. Although out as chair, Powell has chosen to continue serving out his term as a Fed governor, which runs until 2028, setting the stage for an unusually public handoff — and potential tension — inside the central bank. The transition comes as the Fed faces questions about inflation, tariffs, growth and how much independence it can preserve under White House scrutiny.

Please join POLITICO for a subscriber briefing about the issues framing the Fed’s agenda. The conversation starts at 1pm ET on Thursday, May 21.
